We have the finest healthcare system in the world. To keep it that way, I will fight to reduce the federal government’s involvement. That means no coverage mandates on companies, and no coverage mandates on individuals.  That also means those that are capable of buying at least catastrophic coverage and choose not to should file a form, with their respective state, to waive the right to care paid for by taxpayers and doctors. The right to remain uninsured goes hand-in-hand with the responsibility to not force the burden of your healthcare costs on others.

The recently passed Democrat healthcare bill is a disaster, both for the cost and the quality of our healthcare system. It is the most intrusive piece of legislation passed in my memory, with mandates, new taxes, and 16,000 new IRS agents dedicated to its enforcement. I support repealing the entire bill. When we gain a conservative majority in the U.S. House, I propose working to de-fund the bill even before it becomes possible to repeal it. By cutting the purse strings, we can slow the damage until complete repeal is possible.

Healthcare has seen an astronomical rise in "cost" because of the government's involvement and lack of transparency.  Market driven innovation and the proper use of technology will streamline our current system.  We have to take steps to put a consistent and up-front price tag on medical services, because there is an extreme disparity between the bill sent to insurance companies, and the less obvious actual dollar amount that changes hands.

When American ingenuity is turned loose we will be able to take care of the truly needy among us without destroying the best health care delivery system in the world.
